Call for Abstracts – Special Session at ISH 2025

Flood 2024 in Europe – Lessons Learned
Understanding, Responding, and Preparing for the Future

The year 2024 saw devastating floods across Europe, severely impacting infrastructure, communities, and water management systems. Extreme precipitation, overloaded hydraulic infrastructure, and the ongoing challenges of climate change have emphasized the need for better flood preparedness and mitigation strategies.

To address these pressing issues, the 42nd International School of Hydraulics (ISH 2025) is organizing a special session dedicated to analyzing the 2024 floods and drawing lessons for the future. This session, co-organized by the State Water Holding Polish Waters (Wody Polskie), invites contributions from researchers, engineers, emergency services, and water management authorities across Europe to share insights and best practices.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
[✔]  Hydrological and meteorological analyses of the 2024 floods
[✔]  Flood risk management: what worked, what failed?
[✔]  Infrastructure resilience and hydraulic engineering solutions
[✔]  Climate change impact and future flood preparedness
[✔]  International cooperation in flood risk mitigation

Session format
The session will consist of oral/poster presentations on the 2024 floods, followed by an interactive panel discussion, where all conference participants will have the opportunity to share their perspectives, exchange ideas, and engage in a constructive debate on future flood risk management strategies.

We welcome case studies, research papers, and practical insights from affected countries in Europe. If you are a scientist, engineer, policymaker, or practitioner in flood management, we invite you to submit your extended abstract or full paper!

Submission Deadline: 25 February 2025
Conference Date: May 2025, Poland

Submit your abstract or register to attend the conference and be part of the discussion! Together, let’s improve flood resilience in Europe.
